Rule of Law can’t be ensured without human rights protection: Speakers at UO Seminar

Okara (UNP / Sheikh Nadeem )The University of Okara’s School of Law organized seminar where the speakers including Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Muhammad Zakria Zakar, Advocate Supreme Court, Mian Zafar Iqbal Kalnauri, renowned human rights activist, Abdullah Malik, Federal Information Commissioner, Fawad Malik, and Chief Information Commissioner, Mahboob Qadir Shah, stressed on the need of protection of human rights, social equality and legal education for the prevalence of rule of law in Pakistan. 
Highlighting the objectives of the seminar, the VC, in his opening remarks, told, “Universities are meant for creation of knowledge and cross-fertilization of ideas. We believe in holistic approach of knowledge. This can be possible through the continuous and rigorous interaction between students and industry professionals”. 
Talking about the rule of law, he said, “In the environment where there are violations of fundamental human rights, social inequality and massive economic exploitation, no rule of law can prevail”.
Abdullah Malik said that rule of law could not be ensured in an atmosphere of irrational thinking and without the inculcation of civic sense in the society. 
Fawad Malik also emphasizes on the importance of human rights protection for the rule of law to prevail. 
Zafar Iqbal talked about the existing lacunas in the legal system and proposed solution to fix them. Being an expert of the Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR), he delivered an extensive presentation on the best practices and advantages of the ADR system and argued that the future of the legal system belonged to this. 
Mahboob Qadir highlighted two points, including lack of resolve for self-reliance and welfare state, that led to the disruption of our system. 
At the end of the event, Dr Hamid Mukhtar, In-Charge School of Law, thanked the guests for coming over and addressing the seminar. The other faculty members of the School including Kashif Mahmood Saqib, Sohail Asghar, Abdul Rasheed, Faiq Butt and Faisal Shafi were also present in the event.
