Okara (UNP / Sheikh Nadeem Sheraz)A study conducted by the Social Sciences Research Center of the University of Okara revealed that the role of family and peer group was of paramount importance in controlling radical behaviors of the youth. Dr Irfan Latif, Assistant Professor of Sociology, presented these findings in a seminar with the UO faculty members and students.
He further told, “Our study, conducted on the special directions of the Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Muhammad Zakria Zakar, reveals that moral guidance and financial support from family are key indicators in countering radicalization of the youth. The role of educational institutions is also a change catalyst.”
The other faculty members from Sociology including Dr Shehzad Farid, Dr Sumera Tul Hassan and Zoya Yaqub also shared the experiences they came across during the study.
The senior teachers from other departments including Dr Khalid Saleem, Dr Tahir Khan Farooqi and Usman Shamim also attended the session.
Dr Latif vowed to further extend the scoop of that research and study other social, economic, political and cultural drivers of the youth radicalization.
