Pak-Danish Trade Relations Continue To Expand

(Pakistan can overcome its energy crises by improvement of trade ties with Denmark)

Under the strapping leadership of the Danish ambassador to Pakistan, H.E Jesper Moller Sorensen, Pakistan and Denmark are enjoying strong bilateral relations which are considerably expanding over the last couple of years. Both countries are cooperating in various sectors like developments cooperation, humanitarian assistance, stabilization efforts, economic and trade but still much more is required to be done to further strengthen these historical bilateral ties. Currently the annual trade volume between the two countries stands at $400 million, which needs to be increased through regular commercial activities.

At the moment Pakistan is facing acute energy shortage which can be overcome by learning the experience of Denmark. Because Denmark has faced similar energy shortfalls in 70s which was successfully resolved by Danish experts. Today Denmark has become completely self-reliant by focusing on renewable energy and is now in a position to export energy. Pakistan is also trying its best to encounter the situation and besides, traditional methods, the government is also paying attention to renewable energy sources for overcoming shortage of electricity. Work is also being carried out on various projects of generation of power from solar, biomass, biogas and wind for which the Danish companies can extend cooperation.

Would be imperative to express our commendations to the Danish Ambassador in Pakistan H.E Jesper Moller Sorensen for his marvelous efforts in strengthening the trade ties between the two countries. Recently on his directives some Danish trade delegations and heads of various companies has visited Pakistan, who have expressed their keen interest in promotion of cooperation in trade, investment and other sectors in Pakistan especially Punjab. Exchange of such delegations would serve vital role in further improving the mutual trade and economic relations in the days and years ahead.

We have learnt that the Danish companies are earnestly showing their interests to invest in different sectors in Pakistan e-g in pharmaceutical, renewable energy, education and health. Yet there is there is a greater need to accelerate mutual interactions at all levels in order to translate the existing friendly relationship into boosting trade and investment. Apart from energy crisis still there is a vast scope of investment for Danish companies to invest in power, renewable energy, livestock and dairy development, mining, environmental protection and other sectors in Pakistan and specially in Punjab.

We believe this is the most appropriate time for Danish companies to come forward and take benefits from these investment opportunities in Pakistan. Pakistan has always provided a conducive atmosphere for foreign investments and all necessary facilities are made available to investors under one roof without hassle.

At concluding of discussion we are of the view that commercial departments of both embassies in Islamabad and in Copenhagen can contribute a lot by the deployment of appropriate, qualified and, experienced commercial officials who would play a vital role in achieving the targeted goals in enhancing of bilateral business relations.
