Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s water supply project for EWT Green Village Sahal Khinger

Islamabad:Environmental Watch Trust (EWT) celebrated World Rural Women Day and World Food Day by jointly organizing and event in green village Sahal Khinger Gujar Khan. The United Nations has launched the 2014 International Year of Family Farming to stress the vast potential family farmers have to eradicate hunger and preserve natural resources. In both developed and developing countries, over 500 million family farms, defined as farms that rely primarily on family members for labour and management, produce the food that feeds billions of people. In many developing countries family farms represent up to 80 percent of all farm holdings. Shumaila Javed Ali Bhatti Chairperson EWT appreciated FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva stressed the huge productive potential of family farmers. “By choosing to celebrate this year, we recognize that family farmers are leading figures in responding to the double urgency the world faces today: improving food security and preserving the natural resources, in line with the Millennium Development Goals, with the debate on the post-2015 development agenda and the Zero Hunger Challenge,”.

  Access to land and water for irrigation and drinking must be ensured for supporting the family farming in letter and spirit. It is matter of pleasure and appreciation that Heydar Aliyev Foundation, led by Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva, First Lady of Azerbaijan, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO is supporting and sponsoring Water Supply Scheme and other environment and community’s development projects in Pakistan. Environmental Watch Trust (EWT) fully acknowledge the Goals of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Development and implementation of various programs and projects in such fields as science, culture, healthcare, sport, environment, etc. cooperation and implementation of joint projects with local and foreign foundations, NGO-s and voluntary organizations. Good news is that Heydar Aliyev Foundation Community Water Supply project for Green Village Sahal Khinger Gujar Khan is approved. The people of Sihal Khinger are in dire need of livelihoods, health care services, nutritious food source and education.

President Pakistan Association of Green Agriculture Journalists (PAGAJ) Raja Javed Ali Bhatti Said that solar community water pump will be installed for the use of locals free of cost. The maintenance of the water pump will be responsibility. Annually 10,000 people will be benefited from this project. Community water supply scheme will provide water to passengers and Zaireens of Mazar Harat Syed Alam Shah RA and Hazrat Syed Burhan Shah RA coming from adjoining 31 villages of Sahal Khinger, Dokole, Meyana Doleyal, Dryala Khake, Dhok Gull Sher, Dhok Muhammad Wali, Dhok Snglmar, Dora Budhal, Mohra Pind, Mohra Kum, Mohra Qaem Daem, Khinger Kalan, Khinger Mumdal, Jermot Khurd, Jermot Kalan, New Jermot, Ahdhra Kalan, Ahdhra Khurd, Mohra Burj, Dara Keyal, Jhnda, Ghreba, Dhok Qureshean, Mohra Neghryal, Khlabat, Sehal Menhas, Nala Mlkan, Dhok Chodreyan, Mohre Khtreel, Ahra, Mohre Brsal. A Funeral prayer area is also situated 200 feet away, therefore those who will join the funeral prayer will have water for ablution.

President PAGAJ further Said, The water from the water supply project will also be used to irrigate the plants in the vertical garden. The yield produced from the vertical gardens will be sold to pay for the maintenance of the vertical garden and the water supply and to pay for the staff salary. The village is situated in between the market of three districts; Jehlum, Rawalpindi and Chakwal. After the establishment of the vertical garden wall, the women will be given a small workshop with hands-on activities in how they can develop their own small vertical gardens. On this occasion cow meet was distributed among the organic women farmers.
