AZER DEFENCE MINISTER CALLS ON PRESIDENT OF PAKISTAN – SUPPORT ON NAGORNO – KARABAKH WILL CONTINUE – MAMNOON

Islamabad-Colonel General Zakir Hasanov Defence Minister of Azerbaijan along with a delegation called on President Mamnoon Hussain today at Aiwan-e-Sadr.

 Talking to the visiting dignitaries, the President said that Pakistan attaches highest priority to its relations with Azerbaijan. The President emphasized on further strengthening of bilateral defence, trade and economic relations between the two countries. Ambassador Dasqin Sikarov was also present.

 
The President assured of Pakistan’s continued support to Azerbaijan on the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh. The President also appreciated support by Azerbaijan on the Kashmir issue and the stance of Pakistan for peaceful settlement of the issue in accordance with UN resolutions and wishes of the Kashmiris.

 
The President apprised that Pakistan welcomes Azerbaijan’s Armed Forces personnel for acquiring quality training at Pakistan’s Armed Forces Training Institutions on gratis basis. The President further apprised that Pakistan also offered English language courses for Azerbaijan’s officers and cadets at National University of Modern Languages Islamabad and Naval English Training Centre, Karachi.

 
The President also sought Azerbaijan’s support to Pakistan’s bid for membership of Transport Corridor Europe, Caucasus and Asia (TRACEA). It is to be noted that TRACEA is an organization dedicated to reviving the Silk Route. The members of TRACEA include Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Romania, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. The membership of TRACEA would boost up trade cooperation of Pakistan with these countries.

The President wished the visiting delegation a pleasant and fruitful visit to Pakistan. Colonel General Zakir Hasanov Defence Minister of Azerbaijan thanked the President for meeting and expressed confidence that bilateral cooperation between the two countries in diverse fields would be further enhanced in the future.
