Seven Members of German Parliament visit Islamabad this week

Islamabad – Members of the German-South Asian Parliamentary Group of the German Parliament (Bundestag), visit Islamabad from Tuesday till tomorrow morning. Their visit is specifically aimed at discussing the further strengthening of German-Pakistani relations with a special focus on cooperation between the two parliaments. The Pakistan-Germany Parliamentary Friendship Group had been the first bilateral friendship group that was established in the Parliament of Pakistan upon the initiative of the now Speaker of the National Assembly during the past legislative period.

During their visit to Pakistan, the seven Parliamentarians called on the high ranking politicians Mr. Sardar Ayaz Sadiq (Speaker of the National Assembly), Mr. Tariq Fatemi (Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs) and Mr. Mamnoon Hussain (President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan).

The visit also included meetings and talks with civil society members and high-ranking journalists as well as representatives of the textile industry and trade unions.

The parliamentarians raised several bilateral and business related issues during their official meetings. “Pakistan is a fascinating country, and Germany and Pakistan are very good partners in many fields. Our visit will help to intensify these relations.” said Mr. Niels Annen, Chairman of the parliamentarian group.
