A seminar on awareness about dengue prevention was held at the University of Okara with the Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Muhammad Zakria Zakar, presiding over the event. Dr Muhammad Wajid, Chairperson Department of Zoology, delivered a special lecture on sanitation and proper drainage of rain water in a bid to prevent the breeding of dengue larva.
While addressing to the seminar, the VC stressed the need of keeping the campus clean and raising awareness among the nearby towns and villages regarding hygiene and sanitation.
“There should be no filth and disease creating sites at campus. A university is a guiding star for society. We have to change the irresponsible behavior patterns towards public health through education and awareness”, said Dr Zakar.
Dr Wajid urged the faculty members to sensitize their students about proper disposal of potential water containers. After the seminar, he, along with other faculty members, visited the entire campus and demonstrated how to dispose of water carrying material and clean the spots that could store rain or tab water.
