Seminar on legal reforms held at UO

The University of Okara’s School of Law organized a seminar on legal reforms where the Director General of Legal Aid & Justice Authority, Ministry of Human Rights, Dr Muhammad Raheem Awan, delivered a special lecture on the current legal system sate of legal education in Pakistan and proposed certain reforms to make this system more efficient. 
The UO Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Muhammad Zakria Zakar, presided over the event. In his welcome note, the VC highlighted the importance of the interaction between legal professionals and the students of law by saying, “Besides the theoretical knowledge of law, the students should be aware of the ground realities and routine practices of the legal and justice system as a whole. For this purpose, we have initiated a serious of interactive sessions by engaging the high profile law practitioners and scholars.”
 Discussing Pakistan’s justice system, Dr Raheem said that there was a dire need to introduce innovations and reforms into the legal system and the way forward was Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR). 
He also stressed the need to perk up the quality of the legal education. “There is a huge dichotomy in what is being taught in law schools and what in reality is happening in the society. In order to bridge this gap, we need to improvise both the academic as well as professional legal structures.”
The other speakers at the seminar included Dr Hamid Mukhtar, Kashif Mehmood Saqib, Sohail Asghar, Abdul Rasheed, Faisal Shafi and Faiq Butt.
